Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to have a little fun with your makeup collection whether your going out with your girlfriends or spending it with that special someone. Most Valentine’s Day makeup looks incorporate red, the color of heat and passion, or pink, the color of romance and charm. Personally, I prefer wearing red on Valentine’s Day and tend to stick to some of my favorite red shades for this special occasion. I’ve picked out five of my favorite drugstore and high end red lipsticks to incorporate in your Valentine’s Day makeup look. I promise they are smooch proof and long-lasting, but you will likely need to touch-up after dinner because it’s no secret that red lipstick is a bit more high maintenance than other shades!
I just adore the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils and have for awhile now. The formula is long-lasting with a beautiful creamy texture and not to mention, long-lasting! The convenience of having a lipstick in a crayon design makes even the boldest colors extremely easy to apply. My other red lipsticks require a bit more patience and effort to achieve a flawless application. The two red shades that I use ALL the time are Cruella and Dragon Girl. Cruella is a deep, scarlet red that probably gets the most love out of all the reds in my collection. Dragon Girl is a bright “siren or cherry red” with cool undertones.
MAC lipsticks are definitely some of my favorites and I’m always willing to splurge a bit more on them. Whenever I’m feeling on the bold side, I’ll pop on MAC’s Viva Glam I which is a warm brownish, matte red. This shade looks great on a variety of skin tones whether you have pale skin or fall between fair and medium like myself. Sometimes I mix this shade with MAC Sin for the ultimate intense, vampy lip color.
Lastly, two drugstore lipsticks that are affordable with long-lasting formulas are Covergirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in 305 Hot Passion and Revlon Love Is On Super Lustrous Lipstick. The Covergirl 305 shade has been discontinued and relaunched as the Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Hot. If you like intense, high-shine color that has a buttery consistency, you’ll love this bargain! The Revlon shade has a similar consistency to Covergirl, but the shade is less of a true red and more of a fuchsia pinky red if that’s up your alley.
What shade will you be wearing this Valentine’s Day?
