Having been an east coaster my entire life, I feel like I can say that I know what cold, dry winter air does to your skin. I experienced the coldest winters when I went to Syracuse University for four years. And to be honest, I didn’t take the best care of my skin then because you know – college priorities. But luckily, I’m older and wiser now. My skincare routine is definitely a priority now. Not only for health reasons, but also because my skin plays a big role in my self-confidence. I never want to be the type of girl who doesn’t feel comfortable in her own skin without makeup. I love having makeup-free days at least once a week. After all, you need to give your skin a break! Also, running errands without makeup is such a good feeling because who wants to put on makeup to go grocery shopping?
If you have dry, dehydrated skin like me, you probably can relate to the feeling of coming out of the shower with a tight, uncomfortable face. My number one priority when I get out of the shower is my skincare routine because I can’t stand that HORRIBLE feeling. That being said, there are a few skincare products I use that help put moisture back into the surface of my skin. And can I just say, my face soaks up these products like a sponge! I really believe my current skincare regime is the reason why I’m really happy with how my skin is looking and feeling at the moment. Here are a few of my favorite products for dry, winter skin that will hopefully make a difference for your skin like they did for mine.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask
The first time I saw this product in Sephora, I had a hard time understanding the concept of an overnight mask. I pictured myself sleeping on my back all night to let the product soak into my skin while trying not to get the mask on my pillow. Well guys, it’s basically just a heavy moisturizer dubbed as a ‘mask’. So don’t fret like I did. I’d only recommend this product if you have very dry, dehydrated skin like mine because it’s very luxurious. It’s an intensely moisturizing product with avocado and apricot kernel oil. When I wake up the next morning, I can still feel the product on my skin. I use this about 1-2 days a week.
Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
I’ve been using this product for a while now and have mentioned it here on the blog before. I guess I should probably try another eye cream because I do try to keep things fresh and give new products a whirl. But it’s hard switching this one out of my routine because I’m just not confident I’ll find another I like more. First off, this eye treatment is formulated with avocado oil. Give me avocado in any shape or form and I’m happy. Before I became a regular user of this, the skin around my eyes felt dry and itchy. I knew I needed a super moisturizing product for the sensitive skin around my eyes and I haven’t used anything else since.
Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream
Now if I were to compare any skincare product I own to actual medicine, it would definitely be this one. Reason being is that it’s fortified with Vitamins C, E, H, minerals and moisture-rich replenishers. I’ve also been using this one for a while because I haven’t found another night time cream I like more. Not to mention, I’m in love with the scent. It’s citrusy and smells like minerals (but in a good way, I promise). I find the scent of this cream to be really relaxing, kind of like aromatherapy in a jar.
Glossier Priming Moisturizing Rich
Sorry I’m talking about a Glossier product again, but I can’t leave this one off of my list of winter skin products. It’s definitely luxurious, but not in the same way that the Origins Drink Up Overnight Mask is. It can technically be used day or night, although I use it before makeup in the morning because Origins Night-a-Mins will always be my one and only night cream. It’s rich, creamy and smells fantastic, but more importantly, it leaves my skin instantly smooth, dewy and ready for makeup. Also, it’s not greasy at all, which makes me a super fan.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration
This one is a fluffy, white cream that intensely moisturizes dry or patchy skin without being overly greasy. If you’re on the hunt for a super moisturizing product that you can rub all over your body post-shower, this one is a good-un. I have eczema prone skin and if I don’t moisturize regularly, I get a dry, itchy feeling that is super uncomfortable. I rarely feel itchy anymore and think this cream has a lot to do with it.
And that’s it for my skincare products that combat winter skin. They’re all bomb and I hope you like them if you give em’ a go. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these before or if you have a favorite. I’m curious to know! Xx
