I tested and purchased many products in 2016 as my love for all things beauty reached new heights and caused chaos in my bedroom. You’ll be pleased to know that I’ve started 2017 super organized with my IKEA Brimnes dressing table – more to come on that. I do love a good makeup storage post. Nonetheless, what you see here shouldn’t come as a surprise! I tend to stick to using the same products that I love over and over again. Because I find it can be hard to try new things once I’m hooked on something (“what’s the saying – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?”) But for the sake of time and my sanity, I’ve reduced this list as best as I possibly can. Let’s get started.
I can’t say face primer is a part of my everyday routine, but when I want my makeup to last longer, I’ve loved using the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. It’s super hydrating and leaves me with dewy, healthy-looking skin. In terms of foundation, I haven’t found anything I enjoy using more than the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50+. I don’t like wearing heavy foundation and this stuff is just the perfect lightweight, full-coverage cream that makes my skin look flawless. My concealer of choice has to be the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, which I didn’t stray from for most of 2016. It gives great coverage without being cakey under the eyes. Then there’s YSL Touche Éclat, which goes on after concealer to highlight and add radiance to my skin everyday.
My bronzer of choice is Benefit Hoola Bronzer since I used that for most of the year. However, I’ve actually really been loving the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer as of recently because it smells like real chocolate and gives me that natural, golden tan look. And of course I’ve picked Benefit Dandelion Blush because it gives me the prettiest ballerina-pink flush on the cheeks. I don’t wear highlighter everyday, but when I do, Becca Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed gets the job done (it’s intense so you don’t need much). Lastly, I have to give the 2016 brow product award to Glossier Boy Brow, which is marketed as a brow pomade in mascara form. I freakin’ love it.
And now on to my favorite bits- eyes and lips. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette was out of stock at Ulta and Sephora for far too long. The hype for it was real and yes, it was worth it. The shades are gorgeous, creamy and blend-able. For quick and easy eyeshadow, I used the Charlotte Tilbury Color Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencils in Amber Haze and Bronzed Garnet. I finally mastered the cat eye this year thanks to Lancôme Artliner – it has a foam tip that makes it extremely easy to apply. As for mascara, my favorites in 2016 were both Maybelline Lash Sensational and Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes because I couldn’t choose between the two. And last but not least, the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks were the one this year – specifically the shades Lolita and Bow N Arrow.
Well, that was a mouthful. Wishing you the best start to the New Year and here’s to more beauty finds in 2017!
